Relationship of Sociology with Other Social Sciences
Sociology is related to other social sciences like economics, political science, history, anthropology, statistics, psychology and education.These are called social Sciences due to having a systematic inquiry in devising general laws throughout the human behavior.Sociology deals with the general processes of Society.
1.Sociology and Economics:
Relationship:
Economics is concerned with the social life of people related to production, distribution,and consumption of goods,wealth and services.With the processes of social interaction, various functions are performed in which economic functions commonly Sociology is also related to economics because the social norms include the rules of business, earning trade and banking. From economic contact, social institution of economics is developed and flourished. It is also included that the functions of the economic institutions and groups are developed and governed by the norms, beliefs and values of society.
Differences:
1. Sociology studies all kinds of social relationships, but economics deals with only those relationships which are economic in nature and character.
2. Sociology is a general science while economic is a social science.
2.Sociology and Political Science
Relationship:
Political science deals with the social life of people in contexts power and authority among individuals. All the governing laws, politics, policies and political systems are studied in political science. Sociology also deals with the structure and function of institutions and the agency. Status and role both are studied critical science and sociology. Without study of these concepts and theories, the study of institutions and agencies of politics and political systems is not possible.
Rise and fall of government, elections, political agendas, everyday propagandas, political change, critical values and relationship between City, society and state are important in studying both sociology and political science.
Differences:
1. Sociology is a science of society while political science is a science of state and government.
2. Sociology studies all kinds of societies, organised as well as unorganised while political science studies only the politically organised societies.
3.Sociology and History:
Relationship:
History is concerned with the background of events, political events, activities of rulers, economic changes and the social changes. In history past present in future events are related to one another with one or more factors in some situations. Historical method are used in social research and we use history to understand the background of societal issues, laws,rituals and customs. Historical sociology is closely related to history. That's why both sociology and history are closely related.
Differences:
1. Sociology interest rate in the study of the present social phenomena with all their complexity while history deals with the past events of men. History is silent regarding the present.
2. Sociology is an analytical science while history is descriptive science.
3. Sociology is abstract in nature while history is concrete in nature.
4.Sociology and Statistics:
Relationship:
According to Lundberg, all phenomena can be quantified. Importance numbers is evident from the verdict in social phenomena. Statistics provides the researcher with methods and techniques of measuring qualitative aspects of the events also. In sociological studies, we collect data ,manipulate organise ,and interpret statistically.Hence statistics for social scientist is responsible for promoting the cause of scientific approach in the subject.
5.Sociology, Criminology and education:
Sociology covers ideas of criminology in which etiology of crime and methods of the removal and solution are studied. With education, it has a closer relationship in the sun's that education is a rational method of making people useful members of society and community. In teaching norms of culture to individuals education games and important and vital hand in the transmission and transfer of cultural values to the succeeding and upcoming generations.
Conclusion:
Hence, from the above discussion it is proved sociology is a multidisciplinary science that deals with various aspects of various Social Sciences.
